Contrary to what common sense would tell you, the credit bureaus are not federally run. They are owned by large extremely profitable public and privately held companies. As any other company, they are in the business to make money. Consumers with bad credit make them more money; therefore, it isn’t a surprise that reporting accurately, completely and taking your dispute seriously seems to be in their least interest. In fact, reporting credit to federal standards and handling disputes accurately actually costs them a lot of money!
